Dr. Melanie Sumney
Dr. Sumney has been passionate about veterinary medicine for as long as she can remember-she’s wanted to be a veterinarian since she could say the word! A lifelong resident of Lawrence county, she earned her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1996 and spent 10 years practicing in Ohio before purchasing Animal Medical and Surgical Center from Dr. Raught in 2006.
Dr. Sumney loves every aspect of general practice, from a pet’s first visit as a playful puppy or curious kitten to their golden years. She finds tremendous joy in bonding with clients who share her deep love for animals and cherishes the opportunity to care for generations of families and their beloved pets.
At home, Dr. Sumney shares her life with her husband, three children, and incredible assortment of pets, including three dogs, four cats, two horses, two snakes, a bearded dragon, and five chickens.
When she’s not at the clinic, Dr. Sumney enjoys baking, reading, practicing yoga, traveling, and always seeking out opportunities to learn something new!
